  • Fluid zone coverage recognition to leave spot and get into plays

  • Coverage movement w/ a low pad level

  • Shown recovery flexibility in ankles

  • Can explode out of stance into backpedal

  • Plays through the body of receivers at catch point

  • 2 foot hop backwards from press/ has shown lean

  • Feet can click in backpedal (slip)

  • More effective right now in off-coverage than tight press coverage underneath- receivers step on his toes off the line

  • Coverage experience is raw- confusion at times passing off routes (Boston College)

Run Support

  • High effort run defender/ making tackles away from his area

  • Attacks WR blockers (aggressive style)

  • Leaves feet on some attempts and goes very low tackling (some very clean reps however)

  • Incredible closing burst- gallups to the football/ (can be difficult to stop and start)

  • Unreal confidence/ mindset like he’s the best player on the field

  • Long speed isn’t elite

Coverage (Zone/Man) Ball Skills

  • 3 int each of last 3 seasons

  • Press zone coverage to underneath support aggressive

  • Balance through release- doesn’t need a jam to keep balance

  • Sticks in hip through corner routes- plays outside leverage really well w/ inside safety help

  • Gets hand on side of receiver through play/ stayed connected (long arms) w/o drawing flags

  • Press/jam consistency

  • Competitive at catch point (Jump Balls) Long

  • Zone comfortability, little over-aggressive underneath/ forced to be physical to recover (Alabama)- spacing

  • Can be a little pause in coverage after stem/ inside shoulder goes up

  • Back pedal to shuffle becomes a little high (can be beat on comebacks/hitches/curls) transitions back to ball- man press coverage

  • Clunky deep third drops not very smooth

  • Needs to get head around to ball/QB quicker on cover 3 deep pickups

  • Length very useful to help in run support

  • Explosive and very willing run defender/ loves to come up and hit

  • Leaves feet on some attempts and goes very low tackling (some very clean reps however)/ Slim run defender forced to go really low- Runners can beat arm tackles

Role/Grade: All around scheme corner/ Boundary corner (short side) press man or bail used in slot as well to press. Want him moving downhill or playing press

  • Has lined up in press slot coverage

  • 3int in 2021 (picked off a WR screen)

  • Finds the ball late (issue for back shoulder passes) Face guarding (Montana State)

  • Very predictable punch off the line- always the same/ has gotten beat on drags (SFA)

  • Can get caught in backpedal too long

  • Opportunistic creating turnovers- punches at the ball (4 career)

  • Special Teams impact (gunner)

  • Plays w/ aggression attacking blockers

  • Inconsistent tackler/ way too high (SFA WR screen)- doesn’t w/ power- best work comes diving low

  • Can explode into backpedal shuffle

  • Low mover- doesn’t get caught standing… at all

  • Makes you pay if you stare down routes in his zone (6 ints as a Freshman)

  • Absorbs contact in jam

  • Glimpses of being loss passing off in zone coverage/ active communicator- issues adjusting to heavy man beaters (crossers) on the fly

  • Didn’t pass off man beaters (Arkansas w/ teammates)

  • Has been burnt giving up a big play aggressivley trying to make a play

  • Can stumble a little when inside foot is pushed

  • Tries to make contact on inside out cuts- misses create space

  • Can get a little physical turning head around back to the ball

  • Supportive and competitive run defender/ Lit up RB vs Central Michigan forced fumble- low pile driving tackler

  • Plays too upright- really tough to dial down and brakes on routes

  • Violent attacking blockers (leads w/ shoulder) hits like a safety

  • Attacks blockers out of control/ rams into them- can be tough to disengage and create space
