Rushing Between/ Outside Tackles

  • Wide zone rushing scheme

  • Gets up to speed quickly off the hand-off

  • Decisive rusher who welcomes contact

  • Quickness to bounce outside, smooth around the edge

  • Doesn’t show much contact balance/ gets high on cutbacks

  • Plays fast all the time, not much pacing or burst through holes

Receiving/ Pass protection

  • Patient pass protector who correctly identifies rushers

  • Dives at legs of rushers (can miss)

  • Little to no receiving production

  • Situational awareness (reach vs Penn State 4th & 2) go and get me a yard type of back/ stayed in bounds to end the game

  • Fearless effort to recover a fumble vs Penn State sold-out for it

  • Home run speed is lacking

Rushing Between/ Outside Tackles

  • Fantastic contact balance- constantly grabbing yards after first contact

  • Takes legs keep churning to another level

  • Bounces through holes under control- feet almost slide (dodges so many arm tackles by ankles)

  • Protects football at contact

  • Uses ILB on his side to key on inside cutback possibility

  • Limited outside the tackle box runner

  • Some pre-determined cuts in zone rushing attempts

Receiving/ Pass protection

  • Reliable pass protecting running back- will lower shoulder into tackles who are engaged for support

  • Useful 3-down running back

  • Limited route tree, a few wheels noted

  • Hands are reliable not great/ ball works into body often- jumps for passes he doesn’t need to limiting some catch and run (confidence)

Role/Grade: Gap runner- follow lead blockers

  • 4.47 40 (pro day)

  • Tough hard nosed/High IQ back

Rushing Between/ Outside Tackles

  • On toes from the hand-off/ smooth evading first defender- good balance through lower body contact

  • Quick cut back or bounce out reactions based on defenders between tackles

  • Sees defenders early upfield/ set up runs (big run vs Kyle Hamilton)- scary in open-field

  • Protects the ball well between tackles (2 hands)

  • Patient ball carrier- moves at two different speeds at different levels

  • Usually falls forward- puts shoulder down into contact between tackles/ grabs a few extra yards before running out of bounds

  • Nice stiff arm in back pocket (switches ball into sideline hand)

  • Awareness (3rd & 1 vs MTSU)

  • Not much burst in cuts more rounded

  • A little high cut runner- doesn’t sink very low in and out of cuts (gets tall)

Receiving/ Pass protection

  • Will put shoulder down and chip lineman to support OL leaking out- doesn’t always connect can just heave himself at defenders

  • Will pick up blitzing defenders outside the pocket/ surveys the defense pre-snap to identify

  • Used as 3rd down RB

  • Catches w/ his hands away from body- w/o having to open body to the ball

  • Limited route tree used- occasionally lined out wide and ran streaks or hitches

Role/Grade: Follow blockers, draw back, 3 down (pass protection)
