+ Savvy speed and bend: Great flexibility (Spins off blocks w/ oily hips, for consistent 2nd effort wins) and speed changes to gain an edge. Proactive pass rusher who adapts to the way a tackle sets in pass protection, instant acceleration to launch and the length to corner an edge. High upside on loops w/ lateral fluidity and the skillset to close through an edge.
+ Pass rush depth: Demonstrates long arm usage w/ an effective inside counter off of it. Can bend the edge if a tackle sits back and has great agility + flexibility to squeeze inside wins w/ good acceleration through the process.
+ High effort/Pursuit: Closing speed and lateral quickness for effective backside edge setting (zone reads). Has the quickness and lateral fluidity to match steps and split gaps. Has a nose for finding the football.
- Edge setting consistency: Linear into contact when attempting to hold an edge. Needs a wider base as his lower body often breaks loose through the rep. Has a tendency to jump out of his lane integrity (backside leaving contain to pursue the ball or dismissing his edge to dive inside to potentially get his hands on the ball carrier). Finally, the process of setting and shedding to finish gets held up and his shoulders get latched, launching w/ leverage into contact w/o a sturdy base.
- Interior pass rush: Doesn’t create the bull rush to drive interior lineman back into the pocket. His first step reps contain lapses and just sufficient twitch into a pass rush position. Flashes push/pull wins to gain an edge leaning on his electric launch into contact. (Played as a 3-4 DE, but will likely kick outside in the NFL).
- Balance: Hits the ground way too often. Although, he demonstrates good recovery athleticism. Playing w/ more control against the run (was washed out against TE down blocks), a more effective approach to create bull rush knockback and pacing through the rush should help.
Agile, fluid w/ a well developed pass rush plan, should add an immediate impact. His length, athleticism and frame to grow into should add upside for more consistent run defending. Anudike-Uzomah is a young prospect, w/o many starts, but his effort and nose for the football should draw interest, and will likely be moved to a pure edge rusher role at the next level.
